Catching Up with Ketchup

February 4, 2010

We all have had that bad experience with a ketchup package that when you tore one side, the tear slipped to the other side and you had a big hole on the side of the package. Well now Heinz Ketchup has redesigned the extremely outdated rectangle ketchup package. Their new design is shaped like a shallow cup and can be either peeled from the top for a dipping convenience or it can be ripped from the top for squeezing the ketchup out. It also contains three times more the amount of ketchup than the old design, so no more ketchup mountains made from 10 ketchup packages!

13 year old Future Trojan

February 3, 2010

Most of the fuzz was over when Trojans legendary coach Pete Carroll accepted the job to become the Seattle Seahawks new Head Coach. Taking over at his position is Lane Kiffin which isn’t much of a surprise because of his background with USC. This story stayed in headlines for many weeks and it seemed like all the fuzz was over, until now. There have been reports of Lane Kiffin recruiting a 13 year old kid to play for the Trojans. There had been many cases of college coaches recruiting 8th graders but this kid is only in the 7th grade. He is expected to join the Trojans after he passes middle school and graduates High School in 2015. Now that’s a future!

My first reaction of the iPad was that this was the dumbest thing Apple had created. After furthering my knowledge about it, I came to realize that it could be a very beneficial tool. It’s like having a computer with the bulkyness and the advantages of touch-screen. I used to own a Mac Book Pro before it broke, and I am in the market of replacing it. The iPad gives me a less inexpensive alternantive in replacing my Mac. With a couple added/bought features, still well under the Mac Book Pro $2500 range, I could have my own personal touch screen computer. The price is definitely the best asset of this new gadget. I am going to highly consider buying the iPad before I spend a load of cash on another Mac Book Pro.

So this guy in Georgia happened to buy a car with $200,000 counterfeit dollars hidden in a secret compartment. He had bought the car from a towing company. The car is said to have been sitting in a car lot for over 3 years. Officers said that he came across the money while he was fixing a gas leak. He accidently came across the secret compartment behind the back seat and after further inspection, he found the cash. The car had been towed away from the prior owner by Fulton County police in 2006. The U.S Secret Service has been called in to help with the investigation. I believe this is real common for cars that have been towed away by cops. A month ago a friend of a friend was arrested for a DUI by Fullerton County Police. The police “thoroughly” inspected the car and found a small amount of Marijuana in a small canister. The young man was arrested and his car got towed to the impound. The next morning a couple of his buddies picked up his car from the impound and found a larger amount of marijuana, than what the cops found, under the passenger’s seat. They also found laying next to it a pipe. This isn’t very professional because what if it would have been a GUN, they would have lost the chance to remove a dangerous firearm from the streets.

Nikon Racist?

January 21, 2010

This is by far the funniest blog I have come across. Joz Wang and her brother, both Taiwanese-American, bought their mother a Nikon camera for Mother’s Day. When they all posed for portraits the camera would display a message reading “Did someone blink”. This happened every single time they took a picture. At first, they thought the camera was broken so they didn’t pay that much attention to it. Not until one of the family members posed with their eyes extremely open, which they called bug-eyed, did the message stop. They realized that no one had blinked , it was just because they just had Asian eyes. It was hard for them to believe because Nikon is a Japanese company, and thought that they should consider for Asian eyes. The problem with Nikon and other consumer products is that they are aimed for Caucasians. Soon Wong posted a blog that caught the attentions of Gizmodo and Boing Boing. I really think this is very funny and I hope no one is offended by this blog post.

Real or Fake?

January 20, 2010

After wining The Natural History Museum’s annual contest, this picture was rule a fake by a judge. The contest had 43,000 entrants and the winner received £10,000. The contest rule states that only real wild life animals are to be photographed, and in this case judges agreed that this picture was staged. Photographer Jose Luis Rodriguez denies allegations that the picture is stage, but was unable to answer questions asked by the Museum officials. This picture became controversial because at the time there was an internet sensation about The Three Wolf Man T-shirt. That’s what ultimately raised flags for future allegations of it being a fake.a href=”http://alexanderdgreat.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/3-wolf-jumping-moon1.jpg”>

LAX Officer Killed in 2005

January 15, 2010

I read about this in an article in the Los Angeles Times. It very well interested me because of my relation to the city of Westchester which is the city where LAX is located. It also interested me a lot because of the long amount of time that it took prosecutors to prosecute this killer. It happened nearly 5 years ago and the killer wasn’t convicted until today. The killer is named William Sadowski of age 51. The victim was Scott (last name not mentioned) who had served the LAX Police for 4 years. The killing happened when William (the killer) carjacked Scott’s marked patrol car and dragged him for a quarter mile until hitting a fire hydrant that instantly killed Scott. Prosecutors believe that William was plotting on entering the LAX airfield in the patrol car and driving it into an airplane to cause more damage. LAX police department can now put this ordeal behind them now that the killer was sentenced to life in jail without the possibility of parole.

Cheapest Car not so Cheap!

January 13, 2010

I was checking my email through my yahoo server when I came across an ad for the cheapest car in the world. This car is the Tata Nano that is manufactured in India. The base price in India is around $2, 500. They’re plans of bringing this car to the United States. The only downfall is that in order for it to meet safety law expectations the car will have to be modified, meaning the price will go up. Estimates of the price after its modifications are around $8,000 which will still be the cheapest base sticker priced car in the U.S followed by the also “cheap” $9,970 Hyundai Accent. The Tata Nano gets and estimated 50 mpg on highways and has a top speed of 65 mph, which i would be so eager to push this little car to its limits. It has 12 inch diameter tires and a 2 cylinder 623cc motor.
